Graphite shell and tube heat exchangers have long been used in the most demanding processes. Mersen (formerly Carbone of America) has been an industry leader and expert in the design and manufacture of graphite heat exchangers for over 50 years.

Due to graphite’s superior corrosion resistance, optimal thermal conductivity, and mechanical durability, you will often find graphite shell and tube heat exchangers used as heaters, coolers, condensers, falling-film coolers, or evaporators and absorbers, especially in the treatment of extremely corrosive media (e.g. HCl, Sulphuric acid, Phosphoric acid, Hydrofluoric acid, halogenated hydrocarbons, etc.).

In such critical applications, reliability and efficiency is imperative. Understanding this, Mersen has designed its tubes for these units up to ~22 foot lengths, compared to 14’ tubes found elsewhere in the market. This allows for a seamless tube instead of spliced tubes for longer units, avoiding a common leak-point and breaking point entirely.

Our graphite tubes are available in wrapped configurations, that offer superior resistance to thermal shock, and unwrapped configurations, which have more outstanding heat transfer properties.

Mersen heat exchangers are industry-known for their ease of maintenance, along with unmatched repair capabilities at our new dedicated repair facility in Salem, VA and the longstanding repair shop in Gonzales, LA.

Through years of experience with industry leaders in the most extreme applications, Mersen has proven itself to be a knowledgeable and trusted partner. McCloskey & Company is proud of our decades long relationship with Mersen.
